Tips for Winter Boat Storage

Schedule Winter Boat Storage Using the Work Request Form
The Work Request Form is available in pdf format or through our online portal. The Work Request webpage has more detailed instructions on accessing and completing the Work Request Form.

Haul Outs are Scheduled by Week
Your haul out will take place sometime Monday through Friday of the week you select. On your Work Request Form, please enter the Monday of the week you would like your haul out.

Include Blocking Instructions (Optional)
If you have specific blocking instructions for your boat (i.e. bow high or sling locations) be sure to note them on your Work Request Form.

Use the Work Request Form to Schedule Service with Marine Contractors
When you use the Work Request Form to schedule service work with our on-site Marine Contractors, we will add everyone to the same work ticket. Marine Contractors will receive all notes on your Work Request Form.

Boat Drop Off
If you are a Herrington Harbour North Slipholder: we will tow your boat from your slip to the travel lift well.

If you don’t have a slip at Herrington Harbour North: contact the Marina Office for a temporary slip assignment before you leave your homeport or as you are approaching the marina by calling the Marina Office at 410-867-4343 or hailing us on VHF channel 09 or 16. Once you arrive at Herrington Harbour North, please contact the Marina Office to let us know of your arrival.

Herrington Harbour South Slipholders: Our complimentary shuttle is available to assist you back to Herrington Harbour South. We run between North and South at 10 am, noon, 2 pm, and 4pm, or check in at the Marina Office to make an arrangement.

Prepping Your Boat for Haul Out
Please remember to:

• Remove your sails and roller furling jib sail.
• Empty your waste tank. (View options for emptying your waste tank)
• Empty your refrigerator.
• Close all thru hulls.
• Remove any loose gear and outboards where feasible.

You may remain plugged in at our docks until haul out. We will disconnect power and lines and take them with the boat. You can winterize your boat in the slip as we do not drive your boat, we tow it to the travel lift well for haul out.

We will notify you within 24 hours of your haul out with a land location.

Visit Your Boat
Once your boat is on land, you should complete the following:

• Open your thru hulls again to drain any water out. Thru hulls and drains should be checked periodically throughout your time on land.
• Remove drain plugs.
• Do a thorough inspection of your boat and consider any winter projects with Marine Contractors.

Yacht Center Reminders

• Yacht Center Staff routinely checks jack stands, chains, and blocks. Please do not make any adjustments to the jackstands. If you need them moved to work on a particular area, contact the Marina Office to arrange this service.
• Boats on land are prohibited from being plugged in to electric while unattended.  If you need your boat plugged in overnight, please make arrangements with the Marina Office. We may refer you to an on-site contractor that can assist you with this.
• Do not secure any tarps or covers to the boat stands. Tie the cover around the boat’s bottom or use suspended weights.
• Please leave your ladder down and locked under the boat at the keel blocks, do not lock ladders to the boat stands.
• Herrington Harbour is committed to preserving and protecting the environment.  Please use our blue recycling containers for plastic, glass, and paper. We also have an area for used oil and filters. Our Freecycle containers for reusable goods are located near F-Row and N-Dock.
