How to Schedule Winter Boat Storage

We Make Boating Easy

As we begin to prepare for the coming Winter Storage season, I’d like to offer you a few suggestions. Our Winter Work Request forms are available in a variety of ways. From our website you can process an electronic work request or you may download the traditional pdf version. We can fax or e-mail the forms to you as well.

Using the Electronic Work Request
For the first visit we have preset your username and password. Username is your e-mail address on file with Herrington North and your password is your 5 digit zipcode. You can and should change your password once you are in the system. After making selections if you click “review and submit” you will be asked to “agree to the terms” then “submit”. A confirmation e-mail will be forwarded to you within 10-minutes.

Scheduling
Check your calendar and select the hauling week that you prefer. Update your personal contact information. If you have specific blocking instructions for your boat, i.e. bow high, or sling locations, be sure to note them on the work request. By submitting contractor pages through the Marina Office, we will add everyone to the same work ticket to assist the coordination. Contractors will be offered all notes you submit to
Herrington North.

Boat Drop-off

015_dsc_0041bAs you approach the weekend prior to your scheduled haul-out, contact the Marina Office for a temporary slip assignment. Once you arrive at Herrington North, please confirm with the Marina Office of your arrival. As you prepare for haul-out, you may remain plugged in at our docks. We will disconnect power and lines and take them with the boat. You can winterize in the slip, we don’t drive your boat, we tow it to the travelift well for haul-out.

Please remove your sails and roller furling jibsail prior to haul-out. You should make sure that your waste tank is empty as well as your refrigerator. You should close all thru-hulls prior to haul-out. Remove any loose gear and outboards where feasible. Our courtesy shuttle is available to assist you back to your car. We run between North and South at 10 am, noon, 2 pm, and 4pm, check in at the Marina Office to make an arrangement.

After Haul-out
Herrington Harbour North will phone you the day of your haul-out with a land location. Once on land, you should open your thru hulls again to drain any water out, we suggest that you check them and your drains periodically through the winter to avoid clogging and water from backing up. Drain plugs should be removed.

Boats on land are prohibited from being plugged in to electric while unattended. The yard will check your boat stands periodically throughout the winter. Remember not to secure any tarps or covers to the boat stands. Tie the cover around the boat’s bottom or use suspended weights. Please don’t make any adjustments to the jackstands. If you need them moved to work on a particular area, contact the Marina Office to arrange this service. Please leave your ladder down and locked under the boat at the keel blocks, don’t lock ladders to the boat stands.

Now That You are on Land
This is a good time to do a thorough inspection inside and out. Consider any winter projects and speak with our contractors. Herrington Harbour tries to recycle everything! Please use our blue totes for plastic, glass and paper. We also have an area for used oil and filters. Freecycle dumpsters are onsite for good used items.

Thank you for helping us keep our Marina clean! Lastly, we’d encourage you to visit your boat this winter, the elements can be harsh and adjustments may be necessary.
