Fall Boating

Fall Boating on the Chesapeake Bay

Fall is just as beautiful a season as any other on the Chesapeake Bay. In Maryland, the weather is still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, and the water is always teeming with fish. You can enjoy the Eastern Shore’s charming waterfront villages or anchor out in Herring Bay for the evening.

Six Ways to Enjoy Fall on the Chesapeake Bay

Green HeronEnjoy Nature at Her Best

Boat traffic certainly calms down in the fall. That’s a good thing because the waterways are less crowded. The pace settles down and becomes less hectic. It’s easier to find a boat slip in the perfect spot and you’ll have fewer crowds at the bayside bars and in local restaurants. After an action-packed summer, you’ll appreciate the slower pace that the fall season brings.

Take a few afternoon or evening boat rides along the scenic waters and view our magnificent fall foliage. Fewer crowds mean more wildlife will be roaming openly and you’ll get to see it all.

Take in a Boat Show

The Sailboat Show and Powerboat Shows are back! This annual event starts with the Sailboat Show, October 4-8, 2018 at the Annapolis City Dock. The Powerboat Show is the very next weekend, October 11-14, 2018.

Each show provides the opportunity to shop for a boat, boating supplies, accessories, apparel, and recreational equipment. There are several free seminars led by experts. In between all of the shopping and learning, remember to grab a bite to eat! With an estimated 50,000 people expected to attend each show, there will be plenty of vendors and deliciousness to go around.

Visit the Annapolis Boat Show website for more information. There you can sign up for seminars, purchase tickets, and download a PDF of the show layout.

Remember to stop by Tent C-7 and say hi to your friends at Herrington Harbour. Rent a boat slip or schedule services at our display.

Maryland is in Full Swing

This state doesn’t shut down in the cooler weather. All along the waterways of the Chesapeake, you’ll find a boatload of activities you can still enjoy. There are live concerts, fishing festivals, seafood festivals and dockside bars all over. You won’t run out of amazing scenery to look at or things to do. Chesapeake Family Life has a complete list of fall activities for Maryland and D.C. Click here

Go Get the Fish

The cooler waters of the Chesapeake Bay get the fish moving. Cast your rod and enjoy fishing for rockfish, white perch, croakers and more. With fewer boats and water that’s calm and cold, you just might find that you’re catching more fish than you did all summer.

For safety reasons, always wear a life jacket when you’re out. Cooler water means more chances of hyperthermia if you accidentally fall overboard. Your life jacket could save your life.

Take Time to Winterize

Fall is a great time to winterize your boat. While you’re at it, this is also a good time to double-check all your safety, navigation and communications equipment. Be sure your lights are in good working order. Make sure you have updated charts so you can navigate safely in low-light conditions.

Schedule service with our onsite marine service providers at Herrington North and get to the front of the line.
