DNR Names Herrington Harbour Clean Marina of 2012

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) presented Steuart and Hamilton Chaney, owners of Herrington Harbour Marina, with the inaugural Clean Marina of the Year Award on January 26 at a Clean Marina workshop.  Herrington was chosen based on demonstrated excellence in the overall cleanliness of the facilities, environmental services offered and by communicating and enforcing clean marina practices.

"Undoubtedly, Herrington Harbour is like no other marina in Maryland," said Donna Morrow, Program Chief of Maryland DNR Boating Services.

ABBRA Award of Excellence

A national industry award presented to Herrington Harbour North. “This award is given to the service or repair facility that demonstrates excellence in all facets of their company through commitment to customer service, quality management and positive vendor and employee relations.  Herrington Harbour has demonstrated a dedication to customer satisfaction, a concern for the environment, a commitment to its community and involvement in the industry.”

Herring Bay Designated the First “No Discharge Zone” by the EPA and DNR

A “No Discharge Zone” is an area of water where the discharge of any boat sewage is prohibited.  The proper handling of sewage at pump-out facilities is vital in protecting the Bay and its tributaries. -2002

The Secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources chose Herrington Harbour to be the host facility for the signing of the Bay agreement.


 

MD Clean Marina Certification

Herrington Harbour Marinas are certified Maryland Clean Marinas.  To become certified, a marina must present individual voluntary responsibility for healthy land and water. -1999

State of Maryland Governor’s Citation

Presented by Governor Parris N. Glendening on behalf of the citizens of the state in recognition of “leadership and commitment to clean water, and for outstanding efforts as a member of the Maryland Clean Marina Committee; with sincere gratitude for guidance in linking ecological issues and economic issues to the establishment of the Maryland Clean Marina Initiative, and as a salute to participation in the development of this innovative program to protect Maryland’s waterways and foster a sustained, prosperous marine industry.”

National Marine Manufacturers Association Environmental Responsibility Award

Presented to Herrington Harbour “In well deserved recognition of efforts that reflect positively on the Recreational Boating Public and Marine Industry as responsible partners in the campaign for clean waters.”

 

Recognition of Environmental Stewardship

Congratulations for becoming one of the first certified Maryland Clean Marinas.

Herrington Harbour North installed a system to re-use 100% of all wastewater at its Travelift wells.  Paint, chemicals and debris are trapped and disposed of properly and the water from the power washing is treated and re-used. -1998

Awarded the first “Marina of the Year” by Marina Dock Age Magazine

Marina Dock Age presents this honorable industry award to a marina that exhibits exemplary business practices, commitment to customer service, a concern for the environment and involvement in the marina industry.  -1996

Executive Citation
